Bike Day!

There was great joy in Reception yesterday afternoon when the rain clouds began to recede and we were able to take the boys outside to ride their bikes and scooters. I must say, they were all extremely sensible and although there were a couple of “near misses” we had no collisions or accidents. It was lovely to see their confidence and expertise grow as they made their way round the course.

As if that wasn’t exciting enough, we then went to take a look at the internal workings of a school bus with Mr Hoy and every boy had a chance to sit behind the wheel and try out the hooter, whilst learning about the gear lever, the lights and the wipers.

This afternoon, we also met with Miss Thomas in the ICT room, where she led the class in a very valuable session on e-safety.

Have a fantastic weekend!

Total Eclipse!!

Dear Parents,

It has been another eventful week in Reception. We have had a visit from Cally, Mrs Demetriou’s PAT (Pets as Therapy) dog and Perform Drama worked with our boys on the theme of “Explorers”. A dark shadow fell over the classroom this morning as the boys worked on their handwriting during the eclipse, whilst keeping a safe eye on the proceedings via the BBC website.

We have been asked to let you know about a special re-cycling initiative for small electrical devices which has been set up by LEO, the school’s special group which highlights environmental issues. Please see below.

Finally, next Thursday will be Reception Bike Day!! As you can imagine, the boys are very excited about this. Please look out for further information on School Base.

Have a super weekend!144 149 153 155 156

It’s Mothers’ Day!!

Dear Mums,

Your lovely boys have been busy making some special flowers and pictures on the computer for Mothering Sunday. We’ve also been discussing ways to be helpful, so you should be in for a treat! Have a restful weekend and let’s hope that all the “bugs” which have beset us in recent weeks will start to recede.13.3.15 002 13.3.15 003 13.3.15 004 13.3.15 005

World Book Day

Our boys had a wonderful day last Thursday, which was World Book Day. We began with a whole department assembly to whet their appetite for writing on the theme of “Imaginary Landscapes”. This was followed by a fascinating talk by Seniha Ozer, the mother of a Year 1 boy. She has recently had 2 children’s books published and we all enjoyed hearing about her journey to becoming an author as well as seeing some original paintings which became illustrations in one of her books. Most importantly, she encouraged the boys to use their senses to enhance their creative writing and, together with some support from older boys (from Y3, Y5 and Y6) they produced and wrote down some highly imaginative short stories and illustrations. We also had some wonderful stories read by Mrs Atherton and Mrs Painter. At the end of the day, we met for another assembly to celebrate the achievements of the whole Pre-Prep Department.
