A Visit from Zoolab!

The boys were thrilled to meet Jack from Zoolab today! He brought in some fascinating creatures for the boys to look at closely and they also learned some interesting facts. Did you know that there are 88,000 species of spiders? No? Me neither!! They included a Tarantula, a Giant African Land Snail, a Madagascan Hissing Cockroach and a Corn Snake. Please see some photos below.

Weighing

This week we have been learning about measuring weight and the boys particularly enjoyed a problem solving activity which required them to order some “mystery” pots from heaviest to lightest. Please see the photos below. We have also been looking at “Mathletics” in ICT and it has been great to hear how many of you have been working on it at home too. These activities really do help the boys to gain confidence as well as knowledge that will stand them in good stead as they prepare for Year 1.

Finally, we had our first spelling test today and it went really well with most boys achieving excellent results. Hopefully these words will begin to “stick” so that our young charges will be able to use them in their writing and recognise them when they crop up in their reading material.

Have a good weekend!weighing 019 weighing 020 weighing 021

Getting going with growing!

Last week we listened to the story of “Jack and the Beanstalk” which inspired us in so many ways. We have been finding out which group made the tallest beanstalk in Maths, decorating plates with patterns of dried beans in Art and we have acted out the story using masks. Our new role play area is dedicated to Jack and the Giant and we have also been observing germinating bean seeds and planting sunflowers to take home.

Perhaps you could try planting your son’s sunflower seed in your garden. Maybe we could have a competition to see which one is the tallest!
