Autumn 2: week 4

What another wonderful week we have had. We are definitely getting into the Christmas spirit by making Christmas crafts, practising for the Christmas play and using our Christmas role play area.

In Literacy we wrote a letter to Father Christmas telling him what we might like for Christmas. We think he will be very impressed as our writing is looking superb.

In Maths we looked at 2D shapes. We named these and learnt about their properties including how many edges and corners they have. We went on a shape hunt to identify different shapes:

We began our week on Monday in our own clothes for Mufti, thank you for the chocolate donations. In relation to our topic of Houses and Buildings we learnt about famous buildings and we wrote about our favourites from all over the world.

On Tuesday we had a fantastic science workshop and we learnt how to do some interesting experiments using things found in our kitchens.

During phonics we continued to learn new letter sounds. When writing captions and sentences we focused on finger spaces between words.

In maths we learnt about number 20. We recapped all our numbers up to and including 20 by looking at our formation and ordering.

Autumn 2: week 2

In relation to our theme of ‘House and Buildings’ we began our week by discussing what our dream houses will be. We had some imaginative ideas such as an ‘aeroplane home’ and a caravan.   The children wrote about the features of their dream houses.

We also started our week with a special assembly delivered by Mrs Mehta and Mr Shah to the whole of Pre Prep:

In Maths we continued looking at the teen numbers. We applied our knowledge of forming numbers 8 and 9 within 18 and 19. Furthermore, we practised counting using one to one correspondence and we looked at addition sums within 19.IMG_0072[1]

In Phonics we started our next set of letter sounds. We practised our segmenting and blending to spell simple words. We also explored building some sentences, looking at capital letters, finger spaces and full stops.

Wednesday was a busy day as we celebrated Diwali, Remembrance day and Aarav’s Birthday. It was noted just how beautifully reception sat during the Remembrance service with the whole school during a time of silence and reflection.
