This week has been our first full week in Reception. The boys have enjoyed what our afternoon sessions have to offer, including our specialist Music, Drama and PE lessons with Mrs Lund, Miss Attz and Mr Evans. Each afternoon they have been able to visit the outside area within their ‘Explore and Learn’ time.

We began our week by looking at the story ‘Brown Bear Brown Bear what do you see?’ We produced our own piece of writing in relation to this stating what we could see in our classroom. In Expressive Arts and Design we made a class collage of the yellow duck within the story. The boys worked as table groups, sharing the resources very well.

In Literacy the boys have continued to become familiar with our phonic lessons, they are rapidly picking up the cursive script and they are impressing us with their perseverance and determination. Within Mathematics we are also practising our number formation.

In Understanding the World we looked at one of our five senses, this week we focused on sight.

Miss Goring

We have had another wonderful week settling into reception. Today marks the end of our half days and we look forward to having the boys in full time next week. The boys will thoroughly enjoy our afternoon sessions as they have their ‘Explore and Learn time’ and extra specialist lessons.

This week in Literacy we began by looking at our name cards and creating our own to become familiar with the cursive formation. The boys enjoyed decorating these afterwards. We also began our Phonic lessons. The boys have really embraced learning the cursive script and have shown excellent perseverance. Mrs MacNeill and I have enjoyed marking their phonics homework and we’ve seen some super colouring.

In Mathematics we concentrated on Number and counting. The boys have been practising how to form numbers correctly, remembering to always start at the top when writing each number.

In Understanding the World we started learning about our senses. The boys were fascinated by our five senses and what they enable us to do. Next week we will concentrate on our sense of sight.

We ended our week by having our professional photographs taken. The boys listened carefully and posed beautifully for the photographer.

Next week we will begin our star boy rota, which runs in alphabetical order by first name. You can find this list on our classroom window. Our theme is ‘All About Me’. For this could you please bring in your favourite toy or an object related to your favourite pastime. This will be used as the basis for your child’s Show and Tell session. Their item will be kept in a safe place and sent home at the end of the day. Please find below our star boys for next week:

Well done on such a fantastic start to Lochinver House School!

Just over a week has gone by in Reception and we have met many new faces. Since last Thursday we have enjoyed gradually welcoming our new boys into Lochinver. On Wednesday we welcomed our last group of children, which completes our wonderful class.

Everyone is doing extremely well and each day brings new accomplishments. The boys are already rising to the challenge of being independent and following rules and routines. We are witnessing new friendships beginning to blossom and new interests arising.

In Literacy we listened to the story ‘Monkey Puzzle’ and we noticed many of the various rhyming words. We discussed the family members in the story and created our own versions of our family using play dough:

In our Personal Social Emotional Development time,  we have been playing getting you know games.

In Expressive Arts and Design we have been painting self portraits. The boys used mirrors to notice all of their features:

Throughout the week we have been learning about the layout of our classroom and the some of the other buildings at Lochinver, we will continue to do so next week.

Next week we will begin our phonic lessons and the incorporation of cursive handwriting. In Mathematics we will be focusing on number and forming certain numbers.
