Supertato!

We began our week listening to the story ‘Supertato’. A story about a Super Potato who rescues all the vegetables in the supermarket from the villain ‘Evil Pea’. After hearing the story, the boys wrote ‘Wanted posters’ about Evil Pea, these are displayed in Pre Prep’s library. During Expressive Arts and Design, the boys made their own Super veg or dressed them as they looked in the story.

The animals went in two by two

We began our week listening to the story ‘Noah’s Ark’. We learnt about the animals, rain and floods. The boys rewrote the story and showed excellent perseverance.

During Art, they painted their own rainbows like the rainbow at the end of the Noah’s Ark. During Understanding the World, they also learnt how rainbows are made and the early concepts of the water cycle. We placed a ‘puddle’ in our classroom and we will watch to see if it evaporates.

During music the boys sang a song about a magic box and they decided what the box would become:

During maths we have had lots of fun learning about taking away (subtraction). The boys have been playing several subtraction games. One of which is this weeks maths homework activity, please see below:

Please roll 2 dice and write down the highest number you see. After this, record the subtraction sign, then the other number on the die. Complete your number sentence. Have fun!

Superheroes and Weather

For our topic of ‘Superheroes’, the boys listened to the story ‘Superworm’. They listened to the problems that Superworm managed to solve. After this we mind mapped different scenarios where Superworm could save the day! The boys then wrote their own page for our class Superworm book, which will stay in our class book corner to read.

In Maths we have continued to practise our adding. The boys enjoyed using objects and their fingers to add numbers together. The boys also worked independently to play different maths games. They organised themselves and shared the resources very well:

The maths homework activity this week is as follows:

Please roll a die and write down the number you see. After this, choose a number from 1-5 that you would like to add to the number you rolled. Then, complete your number sentence and see if you remember your + and = symbols. Have fun!

We have also started our Understanding the World topic of ‘Weather’. For this, the boys have been busy sewing raindrops:
