Happy Easter!

The boys have enjoyed lots of Easter activities this week. During Maths they went on a number Easter egg hunt. They each found two eggs at a time and added or subtracted the numbers they found and wrote these as number sentences.

We had lots of fun taking part in the Pre Prep Easter egg hunt:

The boys hope you like the Easter cards and baskets!

Pre Prep have welcomed their new ‘Little Leos’ to join the senior ‘Leo’ boys. Leo stands for Lochinver Environmental Organisation:

Spring has sprung!

The boys have enjoyed learning about Easter and all the seasonal changes that happen at this time of year. They listened to the Easter story and learnt the meaning of Easter. In Literacy the boys sequenced and wrote captions for the Easter story. In Explore and Learn time the boys have enjoyed our Easter table:

In Maths we started the week by recapping money that we learnt last week. We have been adding different combinations of money and recognising the different coins. After this, we focused on patterns, concentrating on repeating and symmetrical patterns.

Please follow the link below and have a go at completing the pictures, shapes and patterns sections:

‘Bounce’ and Science week

At the start of the week we listened to the Traditional Tale, ‘Jack and the Beanstalk’, The boys cut out and sequenced the story. Afterwards they added fantastic captions for their pictures.

This week we celebrated British Science week. The boys had a visit from a Computer scientist who told them all about making robots and games. The boys were also introduced to the Science poster competition. Please bring your entries to the Pre Prep foyer to post in the Science Poster box. On Wednesday Reception took part in an engaging workshop called ‘Me and my Senses’. They visited many stations and completed hospital themed activities with help from people in white coats!

Reception also experimented with making their own bubble wands and blowing bubbles outside:

During Maths, the boys were excited to learn about money. They learnt that coins have different values according to their number and colour ranging from bronze to gold. We compared this to the Olympic medals. We visited some ‘shops’, played ‘Money bingo’ and played ‘Guess the coins’.

The maths homework task this week is as follows:

Could you please visit a real shop to buy some small items such as sweets that cost less than £1 or 50p. Take a range of coins with you and practise counting in ones, twos and tens. Furthermore, if you have a toy till at home, practise using coins to buy different items. Have fun!

To end our week we took part in ‘Bounce’. Every boy was involved in three different activities throughout the day. They had lots of fun whilst also thinking critically, persevering and working as a team. Some boys taking part in the ‘Super Trail’ are pictured below:

What’s the time Mr Wolf?

This week in Maths we have been learning to tell the time. The boys listened to the story ‘What’s the time Mr Wolf?” They moved their clocks to show o’clock times as shown in the story. Later in the week we began to learn about half past times as well. With RGB we played the ‘What’s the time Mr Wolf? game outside and counted our footsteps to match different times!

Homework activity:

Please draw some clocks with numbers 1-12. Please then add a minute hand and a hour hand to display different o’clock times. We have been drawing the hands in class and the boys have learnt that the hour hand is shorter than the minute hand and that both hands need to start from the middle and be drawn in a straight line. As an extension, please draw some half past times. Please write the times you made by commenting on this post. Have fun!

In Understanding the World, the boys experimented with floating and sinking. They predicted what they thought would happen and why and then we discussed our results.

In Literacy we listened to the Traditonal Tale ‘The Three Billy Goats Gruff’. The boys acted out the story to learn the sequence of events and to help their story telling language and use of connectives. Afterwards they retold the story in their writing task:

The starboys for next week are as follows, please bring in your favourite Traditional Tale:

Monday: Etem

Tuesday: Harry

Wednesday: Jack

Thursday: Jake N

Friday: Bounce Day- no starboy

Have a lovely weekend!

World Book Day

What a fun but cold week we have had!

One of the highlights of our week was World Book Day. The boys looked fabulous in their costumes and they enjoyed doing lots of literacy themed activities.

In Maths the boys learnt about halving. We compared this to doubling and how halving is the opposite of doubling. The boys also discovered you can only halve even numbers if you want to halve the number into whole numbers.

The maths activity this week is as follows:

This week we learnt about halving. Please use the game below: Press the ‘Halves’ button to start and select ‘Halves to 10’. If you want to progress further then move onto the next level. Please use objects to work out the answers, for example: half of 10, count out 10 objects and use the method ‘one for me, one for you’ method to find half. Have fun!
