Sports Day

What glorious warm weather we have had this week. The boys have been doing very well managing in the heat. They have been drinking lots of water and trying to keep themselves cool!

On Tuesday we had a wonderful sports day. The boys were so encouraging and supportive towards each other showing great sportsmanship. All their hard work paid off.

In Maths we have been exploring ‘Place value’. We have been using objects, counters and money to identify how many tens and ones make different two digit numbers and how we form two digit numbers.

For Maths homework this week, could you please use your laminated 100 square and pick some two digit numbers at random. Look at the first digit within the number and count out how many ‘tens’ it has using your fingers by counting aloud in tens. Next, look at the second digit to identify how many ‘ones’ there are and then count out how many ones there are using your fingers.

The boys have been busy practising for their play. They look forward to showing it you on Friday 6th July at 9am.

The theme for show and tell next week is ‘Transport’. Please bring in your favourite transport and some information about it. The starboys for next week are as follows:

Monday: Ayaan and Etem

Tuesday: Harry and Jack

Wednesday: Jake N and Jake O

Thursday: James and Nathaniel

Friday: Riyan and Rishaan

Have a great weekend. Enjoy the sunshine!

Planes and missing numbers

We started our week writing about our school trip. The boys had so much to say! Their work is on display in our classroom.

In Maths we have been exploring missing numbers. The boys practised counting in ones, twos, fives and tens. We noticed missing numbers within these patterns.

Later in the week we helped ‘Muddles’ (the puppet) find the missing numbers in number sentences. Muddles became a bit muddled working our the sums so we learnt what to do and taught him together.

For homework, please fill in the missing numbers and comment on this blog post or bring your answers in on paper. Haver fun!

2, 4, _, 8, _, 12

5, 10, _, 20, _, 30

10, 20, 30, _, 50, 60, _, 80

5 + _ = 9

7 + _ = 10

10 + _ = 12

_ + 2 = 10

_ + 5 = 15

In Expressive Arts and Design, the boys drew transport stencils. They continued to practise colour mixing and carefully painted their stencil designs.

On Wednesday, Half of the class went to ‘Welly Time’. They visited Green Meadow and collected tiny pieces of natural colour and arranged on a card.

Whilst there, they discovered ‘dinosaur fossils’. Later in the week RGM and RGB went back to Green Meadow and we explored the fossils some more.

To end our week the boys enjoyed making paper aeroplanes. They carefully followed instructions learning how to fold the paper. We went outside and had lots of fun testing our planes. Afterwards, we wrote about our morning.

RAF Museum

On Thursday we had a wonderful trip to the RAF museum. The boys completed various trails and took part in a ‘Teddy’s Transport’ workshop, where they searched the museum for Teddy’s missing RAF uniform, whilst learning information about the aircraft along the way. Once found, they took part in a medal ceremony and learnt how to salute! They loved travelling on the coach and having a packed lunch!

This week in maths we have continued to learn about estimating. The boys estimated amounts of items as well as estimating lengths and distances. We used multilink cubes to estimate and check the length of different types of small world transport toys. At home, please can you estimate the length of different objects around your home and then check by counting.

In Literacy, the boys were learning about list writing. They wrote lists about different types of transport they have travelled in. They also wrote sentences about their favourite types of transport.

The theme for show and tell next week is ‘Facts about your favourite minibeast’.

The starboys are as follows:

Monday: Jack

Tuesday: Jake N

Wednesday: Jake O

Thursday: James

Friday: Nathaniel

We hope you have a lovely weekend and a wonderful Father’s Day. Enjoy the school Fete!

Transport and Coin Mosaic Challenge

It has been lovely to welcome everyone back after half term.

We have started our new topic of ‘Transport’ and the boys have been enjoying the new airport role play area. They are excited for their trip to the RAF museum next Thursday!

This week in Maths we have learnt about estimating. For homework this week please could you find different sized containers and fill them with varying objects such as stones, coins or marbles. Estimate how many are in the container and record your estimation. Once you’ve estimated, please count to compare your estimate to the amount. Please comment on this blog post to say how you got on. Have fun!

Today we took part in the coin mosaic challenge. We had lots of fun and showed great team work to make our design. The  theme was plastic pollution.

For show and tell next week please bring in some facts about your favourite Minibeast. The starboys for next week are as follows:

Monday: Andrew

Tuesday: Ayaan
