Brown Bear, Brown Bear, what do you see?

This week during ‘Understanding the World’ we learnt about a sense of sight. The boys listened to the story ‘Brown Bear, Brown Bear, what do you see?” After spotting all the animals in the story, we looked for items in our classroom. The boys then wrote the initial letter e.g. p for pencil. They also wrote any remaining sounds they could hear when segmenting and blending.

We enjoyed learning about the different parts of eyes and we looked at a large model of the eye. We practised closing our eyes and listening to instructions. By not being able to see, we learnt that we need our others senses to help us if our sight is impaired.

During art, the boys created a collage of the yellow duck from the story:

The boys very much enjoyed their first PE and music lessons:

Here are some other things the boys got up to including child initiated learning time:

Making a collection of natural things

Practising writing our names

Maths homework activity:

The boys have been doing very well learning how to write their numbers. They have learnt that all numbers start from the top and they are trying hard to make them sit on the line. For homework, please can you practise writing numbers 0-3. Please let us know how you get on by commenting on  this blog post. To do this, please click on the ‘heart’ to the left of this post. You can also bring in independent work from home, which we can display on our ‘independence wall’. Have fun!

Next week, the boys will be receiving their first reading books.

Also starting next week is our Star boy rota. The theme is ‘All about me’. Please bring in something to show about your favourite toy or hobby. The list is displayed on our class window. The Star boys for next week are as follows:

Monday: Aarnav

Tuesday: Albert

Wednesday: Blake

Thursday: Chrisjan

Friday: Daniel

Have a restful and enjoyable weekend!

Settling into Reception

We have had a super second week in Reception. On Monday, the boys went to their first music lesson. The boys were singing name songs and learnt some Harvest songs.

At the beginning of the week we continued to learn each other’s names. When sitting in a circle, the boys clapped the number of syllables in each names. We then categorised our names by their initial letter sounds. We discovered that names beginning with ‘H’ were the most common in RS. After this, the boys practised writing their name leaning how to use the cursive script and decorated the edge of their name card.

As Reception are not yet attending assemblies, Mrs Price very kindly came down to Reception to tell them about the ‘Been there done it’ project. The boys were excited by the ideas.

On Thursday the boys went to their first computing lesson in the computing suite. They practised their mouse control and played simple puzzle games.

Next week they will begin their PE lessons, which take place after lunch as well as their ‘Explore and Learn’ (child initiated learning) time.

The boys have begun their phonic lessons and have thoroughly enjoyed learning the songs and actions for the letter sounds introduced so far. It has been great to see the fantastic work the boys have been completed at home too.

In Maths we have started to practise forming our numbers, remembering that every number starts from the top.

In relation to our topic ‘ourselves’, we have begun to look at our five senses.

We look forward to seeing the boys next week. We hope you all have a lovely weekend.

A warm welcome to RS!

Welcome to RS!

We have had an exciting first few days in Reception meeting new friends and learning new routines.

The boys have been settling into their new environment and it has been wonderful to see them walking happily into school.

We have been exploring our classroom and learning how to use different games and activities:

It has been good fun learning about each other and our families. The boys have enjoyed painting self portraits and making play dough versions of their family members.

We look forward to seeing the boys next week!

Have an enjoyable and restful weekend!
