This week our classroom has started to look ‘Christmassy’. Our role play area has changed into Santa’s workshop and we have been completing Christmas artwork and Christmas food decoration. During Literacy, we wrote letters to Father Christmas. The boys beautifully listed some items they are hoping to get. These have been sent to Father Christmas in the North Pole and we are hoping to receive a reply soon…
During phonics the boys have learnt about digraphs (two letters that make one sound). They have also been reading questions and answering them by writing either ‘yes’, or ‘no’:
This week in maths the boys have enjoyed some Christmas addition, adding presents together using Santa’s sack. They have been doing very well adding using their fingers and practising writing number sentences. We have also been looking at 2D shapes this week. The boys enjoyed playing the ‘Shape Feely Bag’ game, where they described the properties of the shapes to their friends telling them how many edges and corners the shapes have.
The maths homework activity this week is as follows:
Go on a shape hunt around your home or out and about. Please see if you can find the following shapes in real life and comment on the blog post if you find them and what they were:
Circle
Square
Rectangle
Triangle
Pentagon
Hexagon
Octagon
When you have found the shapes, count the corners and edges.
Good luck shape hunting!
The star boys for next week are as follows:

The weekly challenge for next week is:

Have a lovely weekend!
Mrs Starkey and Miss Barr
Who knew we had so many shapes in our home! We found circles, triangles, squares and hexagons galore and counted their sides and corners and talked about lengths. We drew triangles and made a shape rocket and baked a square cake.
Drake was on the lookout for shapes. first 4 were quite easy to find everywhere. Drake found:
Circle – our carpet and floor mat
Square – cushion and a Lego piece
Rectangle – coffee table, TV and speakers
Triangle – roof of house
Pentagon – shape in a his baby brother’s shape sorting box
Hexagon – shape in a his baby brothe’s shape sorting box
Octagon was tricky to find, but then we realized it’s a shape of our drinking glass
Albert has great fun hunting for shapes around the house. Although we struggled to find an Octagon.
Joseph found a circle button on the oven, a triangle box, a square cupboard door, a rectangle calendar, a pentagon in the play kitchen, and a hexagon on the end of a weight. We found it hard to find an octagon, but our fireplace had 8 sides!
Well done boys for your great shape hunting!
Mrs Starkey 🙂
