This week our theme in relation to our topic of weather was Snow. In Literacy the children wrote their own snow poems, using words to describe snow using their senses. We also practised our sentence writing 

In Expressive Arts and Design the boys painted snow scenes, made snow collages and cut out their own symmetrical snow flakes:

In Maths we explored money. We applied the addition skills we have learnt in the last couple of weeks to add small totals of money together. The boys visited a ‘shop’ in the classroom and enjoyed playing money games:

  

In Understanding the World we looked at how snow is formed and we made our own pictograph to display our favourite types of weather. In Computing the boys are continuing to improve their clicking and dragging skills:

We have had a very enjoyable and busy week. We began our week looking at the story of Noah’s Ark and we rewrote it in our own words. The boys are becoming wonderful writers and they are really applying their phonic knowledge.

On Tuesday we were lucky enough to take part in the Happy Puzzle Company workshop and we also had our first drama session, both of which the boys thoroughly enjoyed.

 

 

In maths we looked at doubling numbers. We definitely have a class of budding mathematicians. We also looked at capacity and we predicted how much water and sand would fit in different containers. The boys were able to describe the shape and size of the containers and determine whether the height or width would affect the capacity. We particularly loved watching the containers overflow!

 

 

 

 

In expressive Arts and Design we painted rainbows and made cloud collages, which we cut out:

We have had a productive and enjoyable first full week back at school. We began our week introducing our new topic of ‘Weather’. Our role play area has turned into a weather station and the boys have enjoyed pretending to be weather men and forecast the weather:

In Literacy the boys retold the story ‘The Wind Blew’ By Pat Hutchins. They produced an excellent adaptation which wouldn’t look out of place on any bookshelf.

In Maths we continued to look at addition. We introduced number bonds to 5 and 10 and the boys wrote many accurate number sentences.

In Expressive Arts and Design, the children sewed their own falling raindrops, using binca and blue wool.:

A warm welcome back to you all, we hope you had a happy and relaxing Christmas. The boys have had a good first two days to ease them back into the swing of things.

In Understanding the World, we thought of some New Year resolutions. The boys thought of some wonderful ideas of how they could be kind and helpful to others.

In Mathematics, we looked at addition and writing number sentences.

The boys have completed these tasks with their usual motivation and engagement.
