Spring 2: week 3

This week in Maths we revisited subtraction. The boys wrote number sentences in their books, which they did very well.

We also revisited 2D and 3D shapes. All the boys were able to identify the shape names and describe their properties including corners, edges and faces.

In Literacy we listened to the story ‘The Three Billy Goats Gruff’. We sequenced the story through drama focusing on the story language. We then retold the story in our writing.

During Understanding the World we investigated floating and sinking. We discussed many factors that would affect how an object behaves when placed in water. The boys enjoyed predicting which objects would float and sink.IMG_0313[1]

Spring 2: week 2

This week in Literacy we looked at Traditional tale characters. We wrote speech bubbles for our characters and  included familiar phrases such as “Run run as fast as you can, you can’t catch me I’m the Gingerbread Man!” We displayed our characters and speech bubbles on a fairy tale scene:

At the beginning of the week we were very lucky to have year 3 visit reception. Each child from year 3 paired up with someone in reception and as a pair they thought of a new Mr Men character to make into a book. We look forward to seeing year 3 again next Monday when they share their books.

Our World Book Day theme was space and it was wonderful to see many miniature space men and aliens.  We did a variety of space themed activities including singing space songs to the whole school, designing space ships and we had a story telling session with year 8.
