Advent

This week the boys have learnt about the Christmas story and Advent. They sequenced the Christmas story and learnt about the birth of Jesus.

During phonics the boys have been excited to learn Digraphs (two letters that make one sound).

During Expressive Arts and Design we have been busy making Christmas arts and crafts. The boys are excited to take them home at the end of term:

During Mathematics we have been learning about ‘more’ and ‘less’:

For the maths homework activity, could you please use your laminated number cards and find one more or one less than the numbers you choose. To extend this further you can find 2 more, 2 less and so on.

Well done to RS for completing the weekly challenge by using their knife and fork to cut and eat their food:

The weekly challenge next week is  ‘Put your hand up on the carpet’. This has been repeated from before, giving the boys another chance to complete the challenge.

As we prepare for Christmas we will not be having any Starboys next week. Starboys will start again after Christmas.

Enjoy the fair!

It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas…

This week our classroom has started to look ‘Christmassy’. Our role play area has changed into Santa’s workshop and we have been completing Christmas artwork and Christmas food decoration. During Literacy, we wrote letters to Father Christmas. The boys beautifully listed some items they are hoping to get. These have been sent to Father Christmas in the North Pole and we are hoping to receive a reply soon…

During phonics the boys have learnt about digraphs (two letters that make one sound). They have also been reading questions and answering them by writing either ‘yes’, or ‘no’:

This week in maths the boys have enjoyed some Christmas addition, adding presents together using Santa’s sack. They have been doing very well adding using their fingers and practising writing number sentences. We have also been looking at 2D shapes this week. The boys enjoyed playing the ‘Shape Feely Bag’ game, where they described the properties of the shapes to their friends telling them how many edges and corners the shapes have.

The maths homework activity this week is as follows:

Go on a shape hunt around your home or out and about. Please see if you can find the following shapes in real life and comment on the blog post if you find them and what they were:

Circle

Square

Rectangle

Triangle

Pentagon

Hexagon

Octagon

When you have found the shapes, count the corners and edges.

Good luck shape hunting!

The star boys for next week are as follows:

Monday: Nathaniel

Tuesday: Noah

Wednesday: Reiss

Thursday: Sebastian F

Friday: Sebastian S

The weekly challenge for next week is:

Use your knife and fork

Have a lovely weekend!

Houses and Homes

During Show and Tell, the boys have enjoyed sharing pictures of their favourite spaces in their homes. For our topic of ‘Houses and Homes’ we listened to the story of ‘The Three Little Pigs’ and we made our own pigs houses to use at our small world area:

During Literacy the boys created their own ‘dream homes’ e.g. sweets house, slide house etc. They thought of the features in their house and segmented their words into letter sounds to write a list of features.

During Maths we have been using our fingers and pictures to add numbers together. We have been learning the language of ‘add’, ‘plus’, ‘more’ ‘together’ ‘makes’ and ‘equals’.

For the Maths homework activity, could you please use your fingers to solve the sums below. As an extra challenge you can add numbers together beyond 10, by putting the largest number in your head and then count on with your fingers.

To end our week we were treated to stories told in Greek by Dr Polychronis.

On Friday we wore odd socks. Reception watched a video made by the senior boys about celebrating being unique and differences. They enjoyed wearing odd socks to celebrate that we are all different and special in our own ways:

Also on Friday, we were amazed by the Tall Stories production of ‘The Snail and the Whale’:

The starboys for next week are as follows:

Monday: Hugo S

Tuesday: Jacob

Wednesday: Joseph

Thursday: Kailen

Friday: Kiaan

The weekly challenge is: Sit still with your legs crossed.

Have a lovely weekend!

Welcome back!

It has been lovely to welcome you all back after a well deserved half term.

This week we have been learning about two celebrations- Diwali and Bonfire night. The boys learnt the history of these celebrations and listened to stories. They also learnt about Remembrance day and the significance of poppies.

In Expressive Arts and Design, they enjoyed making fireworks pictures, colouring Diwali Rangoli patterns and making Diwali Diyas lamps:

In Maths we have been looking at numbers 12 and 13. The boys have learnt about ‘teen numbers’ and that numbers beyond 10 start with number 1 and this represents 10.  We have been partitioning numbers beyond 10.

For the maths homework task this week,  could you please use numbers 11, 12 and 13. Pick a card, select ten objects of your choice and see how many more you need to make the chosen number. You can also draw the objects. Have fun!

The theme for show and tell is ‘Houses and Homes’. Please bring in a picture of your favourite space in your home. The starboys for next week are as follows:

Monday: Daniel

Tuesday: Drake

Wednesday: Ethan

Thursday: Harvey

Friday: Hugo K

The weekly challenge for next is week is: Tidy up.

Have a super weekend!
