Settling into Reception

At the beginning of the week the boys practised writing their names using cursive script. They have made beautiful name cards which are proudly displayed in our classroom. The boys then recognised and practised writing the sounds s, a and t and drew pictures. We were very impressed with the words they thought of beginning with these sounds. Please do practise writing in cursive script using the laminated sounds sheet and word books.

In Maths, we have started to practise forming our numbers, remembering that every number starts from the top. We also ordered numbers using number mats and numicon, the boys thoroughly enjoyed this activity!

During Music this week the boys learnt the musical word ‘allegro’ and listened to different pieces of music that were allegro.

During Understanding the World, the boys enjoyed learning about the five senses we have. We talked about the parts of the body we use our senses for and then did a great cutting and sticking activity.

We start ‘Show and Tell’ on Monday (27.9.20), please can the boys bring in their favourite toy or hobby or a picture of their favourite toy/hobby. Please can the boys think of why they like the toy/hobby, ready to share with the class.

Welcome to RY’s class blog!

A warm welcome to you and you sons. This is RY’s class blog which is updated every Friday.

It has been fantastic welcoming all the boys to school and seeing them learn their new daily routines. They have been busily exploring and playing in their new classroom, beginning to learn each other’s names and make new friendships. The boys have enjoyed painting self-portraits as well as completing other small tasks with adults. They have loved exploring the resources they can play with inside and outside their classroom. They particularly love the construction area and the cars!

The boys went to their first specialist lessons. They met Mr Barth and Mr Griffin their PE teachers, who were very impressed with the boys’ listening and enthusiasm. They also met Mrs Lund, their Music teacher and they listened to different types of music such as, Celebration by Kool and the gang and Cannon composed by Pachelbel. The boys also met their Drama teacher, Mrs Seamon, they were learning to create frozen pictures and keep very still!

During our understanding the world lesson, we discussed who is in our families and some boys mentioned the pets they love at home too. We later drew pictures and made our family members out of playdough. We labelled them with labels by reading the initial letter sounds.

We have been playing name games to learn each others names. We have also played games and puzzles to learn how to use them.

During Welly time, the boys enjoyed playing chasing games outside and playing with leaves and sticks to make a fire and a tent.

We hope you have a lovely, restful weekend.
