Spring!

During Literacy, we read the Traditional Tale, ‘Jack and the Beanstalk’. We discussed the characters, setting, problems and solutions that happened in the story. The boys were very good at retelling the key events in the story and were able to write some sentences.

During Phonics, we revised the digraphs ‘or’ and ‘oo’. Can you please practise revising these digraphs using your sound cards and write words with these digraphs? You can challenge yourself by writing a sentence. We look forward to seeing your beautiful writing next week!

During Understanding the World, the boys have enjoyed learning about Spring and all the seasonal changes that happen at this time of year. The boys drew lovely pictures and wrote captions of all the signs of Spring.

In Maths, we have been focusing on number bonds to 10. We have been using a part- whole model to identify the different number bonds.

The Maths activity this week is as follows:

Place 5 of the objects on the table. How many objects are there?

One person closes their eyes whilst the other takes some of the items and hides them behind their back.

·         How many objects are left?

·         How many are hidden in your partners hand?

Repeat with different combinations and then move on to 6 and 7 items.

The boys had a workshop with the author, Jeremy Strong. He spoke to the boys about reading and writing stories. The boys thoroughly enjoyed his humorous workshop!

The boys absolutely loved the Easter Egg Hunt. They enjoyed finding the clues around the school in order to make different words related to Easter.

For Show and Tell next week, please bring in a picture of you as a baby.

Sunshine!

During Literacy, we read the Traditional Tale, ‘The Three Billy Goats Gruff’. We discussed the characters, setting, problems and solutions that happened in the story. The boys were very good at retelling the key events in the story and wrote some sentences. Some of the boys also worked together to create their own Billy Goats Gruff story using the resources available. They made a bridge with many animals wanting to cross over it!

During Phonics, we revised the digraphs ‘oa’ and ‘ee’. Can you please practise revising these digraphs using your sound cards and write words with these digraphs? You can challenge yourself by writing a sentence. We look forward to seeing your beautiful writing next week!

We enjoyed using the parachute in the sunshine. The boys liked going under the parachute in different ways such as, walking, crawling, and running. We also discussed the different colours we could see on the parachute.

During Welly Time, the boys enjoyed using their imagination to create different fairy-tale stories. The boys loved dressing up as their favourite fairy-tale characters.

In Maths, we have been focusing on number bonds to 4, 5 and 6. We have been using a part- whole model to identify the different number bonds.

For the Maths activity this week, use this game to help you find all the different ways to make 4, 5 and 6:

World Book Day!

This week we celebrated World Book Day. The boys had lots of fun being dressed up as Traditional Tale characters. The boys took part in lots of literacy activities. Here are their fabulous costumes:

In Maths, we have been comparing quantities. The boys have been trying their best to subitise to 10.

For the Maths activity this week, have a go at this more or less game. https://pbskids.org/curiousgeorge/busyday/bugs/ Can you say how many bugs there are before counting them?

This week the boys had a workshop from Zoolab. The boys were taught some interesting facts about various animals. The boys had the opportunity to stroke and hold an African snail, Prince the leopard gecko and a snake. We have very brave boys in RY class!

During Literacy, we read the Traditional Tale, Jack and the Beanstalk. We created our own story map by discussing the characters, setting, problems and solutions that happened in the story. The boys were very good at retelling the key events in the story.

A lovely parent from RY taught Reception boys sign language. She showed the boys greetings, emotions, needs and pets. The boys thoroughly enjoyed learning a new way to communicate.

For Show and Tell, please bring in a picture of your favourite weather. Can you research and share three facts about your chosen weather?

The Show and Tell boys for next week are as follows:

Monday: Rico

Tuesday: Sebastian

Wednesday: Theron

Thursday: Zavier

We hope you have a restful weekend.
