Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See?

The boys listened to the story ‘Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See?” After spotting all the animals in the story, they looked for items they could see in our classroom. The boys then wrote the initial letter e.g. d for ‘duck’. They also wrote any remaining sounds they could hear when segmenting and blending. We made masks to act out the story and used different materials, such as feathers, tissue paper and glitter to decorate the animals from the story. It is proudly displayed in our classroom!

During Phonics, the boys practised learning and writing the sounds, i, n and p. Please do continue to practise writing these sounds in the word book and think about words beginning with these sounds. We also practised writing the numbers 2 and 3.

This week in Maths we have been comparing and ordering by size, length and time.

Here are some activities you can do at home:

Find a ruler or a stick. Can you find something longer or shorter than this? Can you find something taller or shorter than this? Can you find something exactly the same length or height as this?

You can also make caterpillars from playdough. Which one is the longest caterpillar? Can you make a caterpillar that is the same length as a given stick?

During our PSED lesson, we talked about keeping our teeth healthy. RY Class suggested going to the dentist, brushing their teeth twice a day and eating vegetables! They enjoyed sorting foods between healthy and unhealthy and brushing the teeth model.

If you are out and about in the next couple of days, please collect some autumn leaves to bring into school. We are planning to use the leaves for autumnal art during a Welly Time lesson. Please bring in for the 6th of October. It would be lovely to see pictures of you collecting the materials, please upload to Tapestry.

The theme for the ‘Show and Tell’ is ‘All about me’. Please bring in a photo/ picture or one of your favourite toys to show to the class. The list is displayed on our class window as well as the blog.

The ‘Show and Tell’ boys for next week are as follows:

Monday: George

Tuesday: Harry

Wednesday: Isaac

Thursday: Jacob

Friday: Jett- Louis

To develop the boys’ independence skills we are going to start weekly challenges. Challenges will be placed on the blog and window.

Our challenge starting on the 03.10.22 is: Hang your coat up independently. To support the boys, you can encourage them to hang their coats up using the hook independently at home.

Please can you drop the boys off at the gate so the boys can walk into class from the soft top independently. Thank you very much for your support!

We look forward to seeing you on Monday for our ‘open classroom’ afternoon, the boys have worked very hard and I hope you enjoy looking through their books.

Have a restful and enjoyable weekend!

Settling into Reception

Throughout the week, the boys have been practising writing their names in cursive script. The boys then recognised and practised writing the sounds s and a and drew pictures. We were very impressed with the words they thought of beginning with these sounds. Please do practise writing in cursive script using the laminated sound sheet and word books.

In Maths, we have started to practise forming our numbers, remembering that every number starts from the top. We also sorted objects by colour, shape, size and function.

Below is a Math game you can do at home involving matching and counting:

During Understanding the World, the boys enjoyed learning about the five senses we have. We talked about the parts of the body we use our senses for and then did a great cutting and sticking activity.

Here are some pictures of child-initiated play this week:

We start ‘Show and Tell’ on Monday (26.09.22), please can the boys bring in their favourite toy or hobby or a picture of their favourite toy/hobby. Please can the boys think of why they like the toy/hobby, ready to share with the class.

Welcome to RY’s Class Blog

A warm welcome to you and your sons. This is RY’s class blog, which is updated every Friday.

It has been wonderful welcoming all the boys to school and seeing them learn their new daily routines. They have been busily exploring and playing in their new classroom, beginning to learn each others names and make new friendships. The boys have enjoyed painting self-portraits as well as completing other small tasks with adults. They have loved exploring the resources they can play with inside and outside their classroom:

This week, the boys went to their first specialist lessons. They met Mr Barth and Mr Griffin their PE teachers, who were very impressed with the boys’ listening and enthusiasm.

They also met Miss Yang, their Music teacher. The boys started looking at the Ukulele.

On Tuesday, the boys went to their first computing lesson in the computing suite with Ms Calderaro. They were taught the different parts of a computer.

We have been looking at similarities and differences during Maths this week. Here is an activity you can do at home:

Can you use building blocks to build two identical towers? Can you now copy a tower made by someone else?

Lastly, the boys enjoyed exploring the Music field during Welly Time.

Have a lovely weekend!
