We began our week writing about our school trip. The boys enjoyed recalling what we did. Many highlights included the ‘Golden boy’ coach, delicious packed lunches and a vast variety of planes and even counting the marble pots when we returned!

In Literacy, we also looked at the story ‘Mr Gumpy’s Outing’. The listened attentively and they were able to answer questions about the events and characters.

In Maths we have looked at place value and the boys are gaining an understanding of tens and ones(units).

 

The Year 8 boys have continued to support us each morning and it has been great for the boys to get know them:

 

After waiting patiently for Sports day to arrive, it finally did, albiet with a bit of rain! Despite this, the boys did very well with their events and displayed great sportsmanship.

  

 

The boys have continued are continuing to practise for their play. Miss Attz is pleasing with their determination.

In relation to our topic of transport, in Literacy this week we wrote sets of instructions to make paper aeroplanes:

In Maths we looked at missing numbers within number sentences.

We ended our week with a super trip to the RAF Museum in Hendon. We were very proud of the boys for their behaviour and for engaging so much with the planes and vehicles they saw. Thank you to all the parents who kindly accompanied us on this trip.

A warm welcome back to you all after our half term break, we hope you had an enjoyable and restful week.

We have started our new topic of Transport. The boys have painted their favourite mode of transport by mixing  colours to create their perfect shades.

In Literacy we have read the story ‘The Train Ride’. We have discussed the  repetition and adjectives used in this story. The boys wrote about their own imaginary train rides with the inclusion of adjectives. We had some excellent descriptive language.

In Mathematics, the boys have been  reinforcing their understanding of measuring. They measured each other’s heights using their hands and feet, which was great fun for all. The boys have also used the balance scales to weight different bottles and compare these to different items.

Yesterday we celebrated the Queen’s 90th Birthday with our whole school Coin Mosaic challenge. After whittling down our sketches, we chose a design. Reception Oak were very pleased to be announced as the winners of the coin design. Thank you very much for generously donating the coins to make this possible.

       

Thank you for all the volunteers for our trip. We are looking forward to our trip to the RAF Museum next Friday. Monday 13th is also Sports Mufti day, so please bring in a sports item to wear non-uniform.
