Letters to Santa

During Literacy, we wrote letters to Father Christmas. The boys sounded out and listed some items they are hoping to get. These have been photocopied for our role play area. We used our maps to walk to the postbox to post our letters to Santa. We are hoping to receive a reply from Father Christmas soon…

The boys have been busy practising their Christmas production and they are working so hard!

A lovely parent from RY class made Christmas treats with the boys. RY class had a great time!

The boys have been practising writing their names in cursive and developing their drawing skills.

During Maths, we recapped addition and we have started to look at 2D shapes.

Here is a game you can play at home to help with addition:

Forest School

This week we celebrated Anti- Bullying week by wearing odd socks to celebrate being different. The boys also enjoyed eating their breakfast together.

During Phonics, the boys have been learning the sounds ‘b’, ‘j’ and ‘z’. They have been using their phonic knowledge to write words with these sounds and some boys have been challenging themselves to write simple sentences.

This week we have been looking at making 5.

Here are some games you can play at home:

Set up five skittles outside and ask knock them down by rolling a ball. How many have fallen over? How many are left standing?

Use 5 counters/cubes/objects, how many different ways can you split them into 2 groups?

Can you use a sentence to explain, e.g. “3 and 2 make 5”

This week, a lovely parent from RG did some Forest School activities with RY. She played games and also encouraged the boys to find dinosaurs in our woodland area. The boys later used natural resources such as mud, leaves and sticks to make their own dinosaur nests. RY class are particularly fond of digging in the mud!

During Art, the boys designed their own houses using paper bags. Their houses are proudly displayed in the classroom.

For Show and Tell, please bring in a picture of your favourite space in your house. The Show and Tell boys for next week are as follows:

Cooking

During Literacy, the boys made a home booklet. They used their phonic knowledge to sound out words and write a list of who lives in their home.

In Maths, the boys have been looking at one more and one less of a given number to 10. Some boys challenged themselves to find one more and one less of a given number to 20.

The Maths challenge this week:

Peg a numeral onto the washing line. Can you find the numeral that is 1 more and peg it next to it? Can you find the numeral that is 1 less?

This week we were lucky enough to do cooking with a lovely parent from RY. The boys made delicious chocolate tiffins! We shared the chocolate tiffins with Mr Walker, Ms Paynter and Mrs Meir.

During Art, the boys have been developing their drawing technique by drawing poppies for Remembrance Day.

Houses and Homes

For our topic, ‘House and Homes’ the boys learnt about the materials our houses are built out of and looked at different houses from around the world such as, Kenya, Switzerland, and Australia. They enjoyed building their own houses out of bricks, straw, and wood.

In Phonics, the boys learnt the sounds ‘g’, ‘o’ and ‘u’. They thought of words beginning with both sounds and practised blending with these sounds too!

During Maths, the boys were learning to use language related to time and sequence events. They sequenced how they wash their hands, their weekend day and months of the year through songs. We also discussed day and night routines.

For the Math’s activity, please can you draw a picture of something you do in the morning and something you do in the evening? I would like to challenge you by labelling your drawing using your phonic knowledge. You are welcome to bring in your pictures and show us!

For Art, we made fruit caterpillars and we made fireworks using different coloured paints and glitter.

During Welly time, the boys put on their puddle suits for the first time as it has been rather wet recently!

The theme for Show and Tell is ‘Houses and Homes’. Please bring in a picture of your favourite space in your home. The ‘Show and Tell’ are as follows:
