Autumn 2: W/B: 25.11.16

As we reach the end of November we have begun to think about Christmas. In Literacy we wrote letters to Father Christmas, they will soon be sent in the post! The boys have begun to learn how to write simple captions and sentences.

We have started to learn about how Christmas is celebrated around the world. Furthermore, we started to make Christmas decorations.

In preparation for our Christmas play, the boys have been learning Christmas songs during their music lessons. A copy of these has been sent home for you to learn. We hope you enjoy a house full of singing!

During maths we continued to look at teen number and we also learnt about 2D shapes, ranging from a circle to an octagon.

Here are some other things we got up to:

Autumn 2: W/B: 14.11.16

We began our week looking at houses and home. The boys thought of their own ‘dream houses’. We had an array of ideas which included chocolate houses, rainbow coloured houses and even skeleton themed houses!

As winter is fast approaching we learnt more about Autumn and the changes that occur. Furthermore, we went on an Autumn walk around our school grounds. The boys collected leaves in all shapes and sizes in preparation to make leaf art. They listened to the story ‘Leafman’ and made their own Leafmen out of leaves. They were fascinated at the thought of leaves getting blown by the wind and turned into miniature leaf people and animals.

Autumn 2: W/B: 7.11.16

On Monday afternoon, Reception were invited to join Pre-Prep for the Monday assembly with Mrs Turk. Some boys received certificates and showed their excellent work. From now on they will attend this assembly every week.

We have continued to look at our new topic of Houses, Homes, and Buildings. We learnt about different types of houses, including detached, semi-detached, terraced, flats and houses that aren’t those that we see every day such as canal boats and igloos. The boys wrote their own house booklets, naming the people that live with them. They used their phonics to make phonetically plausible attempts at writing the names.

Within Mathematics we looked at numbers 13 and 14 and learnt about the ‘teen numbers’. The boys have been investigating that 1 represents 10 from numbers 10-19 and that the second column represents the extra ‘ones’.

In Expressive Arts and Design we made some wonderful firework pictures, which the boys were all admiring.

Autumn 2: week 1

A warm welcome back after a well deserved half term holiday. The boys have come back full of enthusiasm and determination.

We began our week continuing our formation of numbers within 20. We explored that numbers from 10-19 are made from a group of ten and ones (units).

In Understanding the World we learnt about Diwali. The boys listened to the story of Rama and Sita and learnt about what happens during this festival. They thoroughly enjoyed making lanterns and Diya lamps.

In addition to the fireworks seen during Diwali, we learnt about bonfire night, which we will explore more next week.

In Understanding the World we also finished our last sense-our sense of smell. We smelt unmarked pots, guessed the contents and recorded these in a table.
