Have a lovely half term!

It is hard to believe another half term has flown by and next half term will be the final term in Reception for our boys. The boys have worked incredibly hard this half term and we are very proud of them!

In Literacy, the boys have been busy writing sentences. They included a capital letter, full stop and finger spaces.

During Maths, we have been using a ‘counting on strategy’ to find the answer to addition sums.

For the Math challenge this week, can you write your own addition number sentences and count on to find the answers?

For example:

5+3= count on 3 more from 5.

The boys enjoyed the parachute outside.

After half term our topic will be ‘Transport’, please bring in a picture of your chosen transport with 3 facts.

Mental Health Week

We celebrated Mental Health Week this week. We talked about the importance of our mental health and discussed ways we could keep our minds healthy.

In Maths, we have been learning to recognise 3D shapes such as a, cube, cuboid, cylinder, sphere and pyramid. The boys were challenged to recall the properties of these shapes.

This week we have been learning about 3D shapes. Over the weekend, please go on a shape hunt! See if you can find real life examples of: Cubes, Spheres, Cuboids, Cylinders and Cones. Once you have found the different shapes, please count the corners and edges and identify the faces. Happy shape hunting!

During Literacy, we listened to the story, ‘The Very Hungry Caterpillar’ and made our own caterpillar diary. We wrote what the hungry caterpillar ate each day and the caterpillar turning into a beautiful butterfly.

This week lovely parents from RY did a cooking session with the boys. The boys made a delicious Ritz Cracker Cookie!

After half term our topic will be ‘Transport’, please bring in a picture of your chosen transport with 3 facts.

Stickman!

This week in Maths, we have been focusing on 2D shapes. We looked at different shapes such as a square, rectangle, triangle, pentagon, hexagon and octagon. The boys enjoyed describing their properties and making lots of shapes and pictures using 2D shapes.

For the Maths activity this week, have a go at these shape games:

During Understanding the world, the boys have been learning about planting. We discussed parts of a plant and what is needed for a plant to grow healthy and strong. The boys then labelled parts of a daffodil flower.

In Welly Time, a lovely parent from RG, read the boys a story called ‘Stickman’. The boys thoroughly enjoyed creating their own stickmen using natural materials such as sticks and leaves.

During Literacy, we continue to recap digraphs by spelling words and writing short sentences.

King Charle’s III Coronation

In Maths, we have been looking at capacity. The boys were able to use the language, ‘full’, ‘half full’, and empty to describe an amount in a container.

The Maths activity this week: Please could you find 3 containers, e.g. bottles, cups, jugs. Fill one so it is ‘full’, one so it is ‘empty’ and one ‘half full’ or ‘half empty’.

Now try: ‘nearly full’ and ‘nearly empty’.

During Literacy, we have been busy writing words and sentences with digraphs.

We were very fortunate to have a visit from Ark Farm this week. The boys learned new facts about farm animals and were able to stroke the animals too!

The boys loved celebrating the coronation with a street party lunch and participating in coronation activities.

The theme for Show and Tell is ‘Growing’. Please bring in a picture of you as a baby. The Show and Tell boys for next week are as follows:
