Happy Easter

This week RY class have been learning about Easter. They listened attentively to the Easter story and learnt the meaning of Easter. The boys used pictures to sequence the Easter story and then wrote key words and sentences. During Explore and Learn Time, the boys really enjoyed the Easter activities set out. They particularly enjoyed making their Easter cards for their parents and decorating their Easter baskets.

In Maths this week, we focused on symmetry and recognising that if you put a mirror on the line of symmetry, the reflection would show the whole shape. The boys enjoyed the symmetry games we played and also drawing a butterfly and chick, making sure it is symmetrical. Additionally in Maths, we learnt about repeated patterns. The boys used unifix cubes to make their own repeated patterns. All boys did a fabulous job!

Please follow the link below and have a go at completing the pictures, shapes and patterns sections.

To treat the boys for their hard work this term, Mrs Aldridge and I took the boys into the play area. They absolutely loved playing on the climbing frame, sliding down the slide and much more!

I wanted to take this opportunity to say a huge thank you to RY Class and parents for making my first term at Lochinver enjoyable. The boys have worked extremely hard this term and we are very proud! Thank you parents for mine and Mrs Aldridge’s lovely gifts we really appreciate your kind and thoughtful gesture.

We wish you all a restful and wonderful Easter break.

Spring is Here!

RY Class have been learning about the seasonal changes that happen at this time of year. During Welly Time, the boys really enjoyed going for a walk outside and going on a Spring hunt. They used their senses to listen, smell and hear for signs of spring. The boys worked as a group to tick the Spring signs using a Spring Hunt checklist sheet. They were very happy to find: blossom on trees, daffodils, birds, insects and green leaves.

This week we wrote in our brand new, ‘News Books.’ We discussed what we did over the weekend and then used our phonic knowledge to write a sentence(s). The boys enjoyed drawing a picture of their weekend after.

During Literacy, we listened to the Traditional Tale, ‘Jack and the Beanstalk.’ The boys cut out and sequenced the story. They then added fantastic captions for their pictures.

This week we spoke about the importance of friendships. RY class thought of some great ideas of how we can be a good friend. The boys mentioned listening to our friends; speaking kind words; using our gentle hands; sharing our toys and playing nicely together.

During Maths, the boys were excited to learn about money. They learnt that coins have different values according to their number and colour, ranging from bronze to gold. We visited some ‘shops,’ created coin rubbings using crayons and played, ‘Guess the coins’.

The Maths homework task this week is as follows:

Could you please visit a real shop to buy some small items such as sweets that cost less than £1 or 50p. Take a range of coins with you and practise counting in ones, twos and tens. Furthermore, if you have a toy till at home, practise using coins to buy different items. Have fun!

Show and Tell boys next week are as follows:

Monday: Arthur

Tuesday: Finley

Wednesday: Harvey

The challenge for next week is: Put your hand up on the carpet.

Have a great weekend!

Welcome Back!

Welcome back to school!

The boys did really well settling back into school this week. They were so excited to see their friends and finally be together again. During out first day, RY class spoke about what we are looking forward to learning in school and what we enjoyed doing at home. We also spoke about what we were worried about and how we can keep safe in school. RY class discussed the different emotions we may feel such as, happy, sad and angry. We played a game called, ‘Act The Emotion,’ whereby the boys had to act an emotion and the class would guess the emotion. Additionally, the boys enjoyed playing, ‘Mr. Bear Game’ and had to work together as a team to hide the honey from the bear. The boys did a great job guessing who had taken the honey!

During Welly Time, the boys really enjoyed developing their tennis skills. They were practising throwing the ball in the air and hitting the ball with the tennis rackets.

The boys really enjoyed being back in Drama class. They were balancing on a tight rope:

The boys investigated floating and sinking and learnt the different objects that float and sink. They all thoroughly enjoyed this activity!

To celebrate World Book Day, the boys had a zoom meeting with the authors, Sue Hendra and Paul Linnet from the story Supertato. The boys enjoyed listening to a story; participating in a question and answer session and a quiz.

During Literacy we reenacted ‘The Three Billy-goats Gruff.’  The boys really enjoyed saying the repetitive language in the story such as, ‘Who is that trip- trapping over my bridge?’ and ‘trip- trap, trip- trap.’ We then wrote some sentences about the story.

In Maths the boys listened to the story, ‘What’s the time Mr Wolf?’ They have been learning o’clock times and learning about what happens at different times during the day. Later in the week, we challenged ourselves and looked at half past times.

For this weeks Maths challenge,  please draw some clocks with numbers 1-12. Please then add a minute hand and a hour hand to display different o’clock times. We have been drawing the hands in class and the boys have learnt that the hour hand is shorter than the minute hand and that both hands need to start from the middle and be drawn in a straight line. If you would like an extra challenge, please draw some half past times. Please write the times you made by commenting on this post. Have fun!

The Show and Tell boys for next week are as follows:

Monday: Christos

Tuesday: Emilio

Wednesday: Emir

Thursday: Erwan

Friday: Eshaan

The challenge for next week is: Sit still and cross your legs on the carpet.

Have a great weekend!
