The end of the first half term!

A huge well done to RY Class for a brilliant first half term. The boys have all made new friends and they have worked very hard with their school work. They have made progress in many areas and it has been wonderful to see their development so far.

To celebrate a great first half term the boys enjoyed a fun Halloween party. The boys enjoyed participating in different Halloween activities such as, painting, cutting and sticking and lots of dancing! All boys looked incredible in their Halloween costumes.

We also had fun playing Halloween games outside with RG.

During Maths we looked at the numbers 9 and 10. We were busy forming our numbers and finding different representations of 9 and 10.

For the Maths homework, please continue to practise writing numbers 0-10 and finding 1 more/ 1 less of a given number to 10. Use your number cards to pick a number and say 1 more and 1 less. You can use a number line or objects to help you. Challenge- Try larger numbers.

During Phonics, we recapped all the sounds we know and learnt the sounds ‘d’ and ‘g.’ We discussed words that begin with the sound ‘d’ and ‘g’ and practised writing these sounds in cursive.

The theme for show and tell after half term is ‘Houses and Homes’. Please bring in a picture of your favourite space in your home. The ‘Show and Tell’ boys after half term are:

Monday: Half term

Tuesday: Andreas

Wednesday: Blake

Thursday: Cesur

The weekly challenge the first week back is: Put your coat on independently.

We hope you have a well deserved, restful and enjoyable half term!

Leafman and tasting experience

This week during ‘Understanding the World’, the boys have been exploring their sense of taste. The boys enjoyed learning all about their taste buds! We had a popcorn tasting experiment to test our sense of taste. Using two numbered pots, the boys tasted and guessed whether the popcorn was sweet or salt flavoured. They then learnt how to tick their choice using a table chart. We had a vote of which flavour was our favourite and most boys preferred salty flavoured popcorn!

The boys have been enjoying their outside ‘Welly time’. On Tuesday they visited the music field and they collected different types of leaves. During Expressive Arts and Design, the boys created Leaf men pictures using the leaves they collected. Their pictures were inspired by the story ‘Leafman’ by Lois Ehlert. We hope you enjoyed looking at them on the classroom windows.

During Literacy, the boys enjoyed listening to the story, ‘Pumpkin Soup’ by Helen Cooper. They wrote about what vegetables they would like in their soup and enjoyed activities based on the story involving making soup out of playdough and a cutting and sticking activity.

This week in Maths we have looked at numbers 7 and 8. For the homework activity this week, could you please practise writing numbers 5-8.

For show and tell please bring in your favourite toy or a picture of your favourite toy. The Show and Tell boys are as follows:

Monday: Rico

Tuesday: Sebastian

Wednesday: Theron and Zavier

The weekly challenge for next week is: Put your hand up on the carpet.

We hope you have a wonderful weekend.

Polar Bear, Polar Bear, What Do You Hear?

During Understanding the World, we have continued to investigate our senses. This week we looked at hearing. We listened to the story ‘Polar bear, Polar Bear, What Do You Hear?” The boys then listened for sounds in our classroom and they wrote the initial letter sound for what they could hear and any remaining letter sounds. Furthermore, we looked at a model of an ear and we played an animal sound game.

During Phonics, the boys have continued to learn new letter sounds and the cursive formation for each letter.

In Maths, the boys have been practising their counting and number formation. We have been learning to form numbers 5 and 6. Also, we have been learning one more than a given number to 10.

For the Maths homework activity this week could you please complete the following activity:

Lay out your laminated number cards facing downwards. Turn one over and draw that number of objects and/or practise writing the number. Continue until you have turned over all numbers. Please comment on this blog post to say how you got on. You can do this by clicking on the heart on the left hand side of this post. For an extra challenge, can you find ‘one more’ of these numbers? Have fun!

During our PSED lesson, we talked about how we can keep our teeth healthy. RY class mentioned that we must brush our teeth and not eat foods with too much sugar. The boys understood how unhealthy foods could hurt our teeth and the importance of brushing our teeth twice a day (in the morning and before going to bed). We also talked about the importance of visiting the dentist and shared our own personal experiences when we visited the dentist.

During Welly Time, we used our autumn treasures to make beautiful autumnal pictures. We worked together and discussed textures, colours and size of objects.

We have really enjoyed reading with the boys this week and discussing the stories they have read. Please can we kindly remind you to write a short comment or initial that you have read the story with the boys, we would like to know how they are reading at home.

The Show and Tell boys are as follows:

Monday: Jack

Tuesday: Joshua

Wednesday: Leo M

Thursday: Leo S

Friday: Phoenix

The weekly challenge next week is: ‘Put your hand up on the carpet.’

Have a fabulous weekend!

Our Senses

This week during ‘Understanding the World’ we learnt about a sense of sight. The boys listened to the story ‘Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See?” After spotting all the animals in the story, they looked for items they could see in our classroom. The boys then wrote the initial letter e.g. d for ‘duck’. They also wrote any remaining sounds they could hear when segmenting and blending. We also made stick puppets to act out the story and painted animals from the story.

During Art, the boys enjoyed decorating a collage of a duck from ‘Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What do you See?’ It is displayed in our classroom.

During Welly time, the boys really enjoyed gathering leaves, conkers and sticks in preperation for their autumn art picture.

During Phonics, the boys practised learning and writing the sounds, i, n and p. Please do continue to practise writing these sounds in the word book and think about words beginning with these sounds. We also practised writing the numbers 3 and 4.

The theme for the ‘Show and Tell’ boy rota is ‘All about me’. Please bring in a photo/ picture or one of your favourite toys to show to the class. The list is displayed on our class window as well as the blog.

The ‘Show and Tell’ boys for next week are as follows:

Monday: Edmund

Tuesday: Frederick

Wednesday: Gabe

Thursday: Haikhun

Friday: Hugo

Our weekly challenge of ‘hang your coat up independently’ will start on the 04.10.21. Please encourage the boys to hang their coats up using the hook independently at home.

We look forward to seeing you on Monday for our ‘open classroom’ afternoon, the boys have worked very hard and I hope you enjoy looking through their books.

Have a restful and enjoyable weekend!
