Bethlehem B&B

The boys have had a busy week rehearsing for their Christmas play. All of their efforts paid off as they performed brilliantly in front of a large audience! They should all be very proud of themselves. Please see photos of the boys looking fantastic below:

This week the boys have learnt about Advent. They learnt about Advent wreaths and Advent calendars and traditions that happen in the lead up to Christmas Day. Next week we will be opening our class Advent calendar each day…

Here are the boys enjoying Christmas activities during their explore and learn time:

During phonics the boys have been excited to learn more Digraphs (two letters that make one sound).

During Expressive Arts and Design we have been busy making Christmas arts and crafts. The boys are looking forward to taking them home at the end of term:

ticklish feet!

During Mathematics we have been learning about ‘more’ and ‘less’:

For the Maths homework this week, please could the boys practise writing the teen numbers, remembering to place the ‘1’ first.

Well done to RS for completing the weekly challenge by using their knife and fork to eat their food.

The Starboys for next week are:

It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas…

This week our classroom has started to look ‘Christmassy’. Our role play area has changed into Santa’s workshop and we have been completing Christmas decorations. During Literacy, we wrote letters to Father Christmas. The boys beautifully listed some items they are hoping to get. These have been sent to Father Christmas in the North Pole and we are hoping to receive a reply soon…

The boys have also been busy singing and rehearsing for Pre Prep’s Christmas play, which they are excited to perform.

During phonics the boys have started to learn about digraphs (two letters that make one sound).

In Maths the boys have enjoyed some Christmas addition, adding presents together using Santa’s sack. They have been doing very well adding using objects and their fingers.

For the Maths homework activity, could you please use your laminated number cards and find one more or one less than the numbers you choose. To extend this further you can find 2 more, 2 less and so on.

Houses and Homes

During Show and Tell, the boys have enjoyed sharing pictures of their favourite spaces in their homes. For our topic of ‘Houses and Homes’ the boys listened to the story of ‘The Three Little Pigs’ and they made our own pigs houses to use at our small world area:

During Literacy the boys created their own ‘dream homes’ e.g. sweets house, chocolate house, slide house etc. They thought of the features in their house and segmented their words to hear the letter sounds to write a list of features for their houses.

During Maths we have been using our fingers and pictures to add numbers together. We have been learning the language of ‘add’, ‘plus’, ‘more’ ‘together’ ‘makes’ and ‘equals’.

For the Maths homework activity, could you please use your fingers or objects to solve the sums below. As an extra challenge you can add numbers together beyond 10, by putting the largest number in your head and then count on with your fingers. Welcome back!

It has been lovely to welcome you all back after a well deserved half term.

This week we have been learning about Bonfire night. The boys learnt the history of these celebrations and listened to stories. They also learnt about Remembrance day and the significance of poppies.

In Expressive Arts and Design, they enjoyed making fireworks pictures:

In Maths the boys learnt about numbers 12 and 13. They have been learning about ‘teen numbers’ and that numbers beyond 10 start with number 1 and this represents 10.  We have been partitioning numbers beyond 10 and seeing how many extra ones need to be added to 10.

For the Maths homework this week,  could you please use numbers 11, 12 and 13. Pick a card, select ten objects of your choice and see how many more you need to make the chosen number. You can also draw the objects. Have fun! Please comment on this blog post by clicking the ‘heart’ on the left hand side to say how you got on.

The theme for show and tell is ‘Houses and Homes’. Please bring in a picture of your favourite space in your home. The Starboys for next week are as follows:

Monday: Nathan

Tuesday: Nikhil

Wednesday: Oliver

Thursday: Patrick

Friday: Zachary

The weekly challenge for next is week is: Share with others.

Have a super weekend!
