Autumn 1 W/B: 17.10.16

Today marks the end of our first half term in Reception and what a super half term it has been! All the boys have adjusted well into reception life and they are showing growing independence and noticeable progress. They are trying their best in their work and play, which is wonderful to see.

This week in maths we practised forming number 10, as well as revisiting  formation from 0-9. We also began to learn about number bonds to 10. We will continue to learn number bonds to 10 over the course of the year.

As we were looking at our sense of touch, In Literacy and Understanding the world we made ‘Texture books’. The boys glued an item into their book and wrote phonetically plausible labels to accompany the different textures.

In Expressive Arts and Design, the boys  drew a self portrait in their new art books.

Autumn 1: W/B: 10.10.16

We began our week looking at a new sense-our sense of taste. We learnt about our taste buds and how different parts of our tongue taste different flavours. Furthermore, we listened to the story ‘Pumpkin Soup’, which tells the story of working as a team to make food together. Afterwards, the boys used their phonic knowledge to segment and blend words together to write a list of their own ingredients.

In Understanding the World we used our taste buds to compare different flavours of popcorn. The boys didn’t know which flavour was in each numbered pot. They recorded their findings within a table, correctly noticing the difference between the flavours.

In Mathematics we continued to form numbers within 10. Furthermore, we investigated addition within 10 using our fingers and we recorded our findings as simple number sentences.

In Expressive Arts and Design we drew the cross sections of fruit:

Autumn 1: W/B: 3/10/16

We have had an excellent week in Reception, continuing to learn and embrace the rules our routines of school life.

We began our week looking at our sense of hearing, after learning about our sense of sight last week. We listened to the story ‘Brown Bear Brown Bear what do you hear?” In response to this, we wrote what we could hear in our classroom, using our phonics to segment and blend words together. Later on in the week we played listening games, listening and matching pictures:

In Phonics we moved onto set 2 within phase 2 of Jolly Phonics and learnt the accompanying cursive script formation.

Within Maths we have continued to learn to correctly form more numbers within 10 and consolidate previous numbers. Furthermore, we have looked at simple addition using these numbers.

On Monday we went to our first assembly in the Theatre with the rest of Pre-Prep for the Pathways assembly. The children sat and listened very well. Reception have also been invited to join the rest of Pre-Prep every Wednesday afternoon for Hymn Practice.

Here are some other things we have got up to this week:
