Brown Bear, Brown Bear, what do you see?

This week during ‘Understanding the World’ we learnt more about a sense of sight. The boys enjoyed learning about the different parts of our eye and looking at a large model of the eye.

We listened to the story ‘Brown Bear, Brown Bear, what do you see?’ Afterwards, the boys wrote in their literacy books something that they could see. They wrote the initial letter sound and any remaining letter sounds they could hear when segmenting and blending. During art, the boys created a collage in relation to the story:

The boys very mjuch enjoyed their first PE and music lessons.

Settling into Reception: Autumn 2017

We have had a wonderful second week in Reception. The boys are getting used to their daily routines. Next week they will begin their PE and Music lessons, which take place after lunch as well as their ‘Explore and Learn’ time.

At the beginning of the week we continued to learn each other’s names. When sitting in a circle, the boys clapped the number of syllables in each names. We then categorised our names by their initial letter sounds. We discovered that names beginning with ‘J’ were the most common in RGM. After this, the boys practised writing their name using the cursive script and decorated the edge of their name card.

The boys have begun their phonic lessons and have thoroughly enjoyed learning the songs and actions for the letter sounds introduced so far. It has been great to see the fantastic work the boys have been completed at home too.

In Maths we have started to practise forming our numbers, remembering that every number starts from the top.

In relation to our topic ‘ourselves’, we have begun to look at our five senses. The boys were interested to learn that if your sense of sight was impaired you would need to use your other senses to help you. We directed boys who had their eyes closed around the circle. They soon realised their sense of hearing and touch helped guide them:

Next week we will be starting our Starboy rota. Part of being Starboy is the opportunity to bring in ‘Show and Tell’. Our current theme is ‘Ourselves’. For this, could you please bring in an item or picture related to your favourite hobby or pastime. The Starboys are as follows:

Monday: Andrew

Tuesday: Ayaan

Wednesday: Etem

Thursday: Harry

Friday: Jack

Welcome to RGM 2017-18

Welcome to RGM’s class blog!

A warm welcome to all of our new Reception boys and their families.

We have had a wonderful first few days settling into Reception life. The boys have learnt how to do several new things. They have been recognising and finding their name in several places around the classroom and sitting in their new ‘home places’ at their coloured tables. During our mornings we have been listening to several instructions and learning how to line up and move around the school. At snack time, the boys have been pouring their own drinks and selecting their fruit. At lunchtime, they have been politely choosing their lunch and persevering with eating new food.

We have taken part in many circle time activities, where we have been getting to know each others name through singing and games. The boys are beginning to form friendships and are playing kindly and considerately with other.

On Wednesday morning the boys visited the computing suite for their first computing lesson:

This morning we listened to the story ‘Monkey Puzzle’. We then made playdough versions of our family and matched them with labels:

Here are some other things we got up to during ‘Busy Fingers’ and our ‘Explore and Learn’ time (child initiated learning time):

We look forward to seeing you all again on Monday. Have a wonderful weekend!
