Week 4-Let the sun shine!

What a hot week it has been! The boys have been enjoying lots of drinks and being outside playing in the shade.

The boys have been painting beautiful Henri Rousseau pictures:

During Literacy they had some great ideas when writing speech and thought bubbles for characters in the recycling story ‘The Messy Magpie’:

During Maths, the boys have become 3D shape experts by going on a shape hunt and playing shape games where they have been naming shapes and describing shape properties, including faces, edges and corners.

The boys have continued to enjoy their music and drama virtual lessons:

The homework activities this week are as follows:

Literacy:

Please read and practise spelling the following ‘tricky words’:

all

you

one

Start with making sure they can read the words and then use the technique of ‘look, cover and write’ to practise spelling.

For an extra challenge, they can choose one of the above words and write it in a sentence.

Enjoy!

Go on a shape hunt around your home or out and about. Please see if you can find the following shapes in real life and comment on the blog post if you find them and what they were:

When you have found the shapes, count the corners, edges and faces.

Good luck shape hunting!

Have a lovely weekend!

Week 3

The boys have had a fun and happy week at school.

In phonics the boys have learnt some alternative spellings for digraphs and they have been doing well practising their handwriting.

For Understanding the World, there was much excitement when they made paper aeroplanes. They learnt about thrust and lift. Once they made their planes they wrote a set of instructions for how they made them.

In Maths the boys have been learning about place value looking at tens and ones. They have been doing really well broadening their understanding of numbers beyond 20.

Here are some of the things the boys got up to during ‘Explore and Learn’ time:

Homework:

Maths

For Maths homework this week, could you please use your laminated 100 square and pick some two digit numbers at random. Look at the first digit within the number and count out how many ‘tens’ it has using your fingers by counting aloud in tens. Next, look at the second digit to identify how many ‘ones’ there are and then count out how many ones there are using your fingers.

Literacy

For Literacy homework this week, could you please work on the first set of tricky words:

my

by

she

are

Start with making sure they can read the words and then use the technique of ‘look, cover and write’ to practise spelling.

For an extra challenge, you can choose one of the above words and write it in a sentence.

Have a lovely weekend.

A warm welcome back!

It has been wonderful to welcome the boys back after many weeks of home schooling; there have been lots of smile! The boys have quickly picked up the new routines and arrangements and they have been listening really well.

This week in phonics we have been learning about two syllable words, which the boys have been reading and writing. In Literacy we wrote endings to a story.

For Literacy homework this week, could the boys please work on the first set of tricky words:

the

to

I

no

go

into

Start with making sure your son can read the words and then use the technique of ‘look, cover and write’ to practise spelling.

For an extra challenge, they can choose one of the above words and write it in a sentence.

Playing outside:

In Maths we learnt about missing numbers.  Please comment your answers on the blog post by clicking on the heart on the left hand side of this post.

Please fill in the missing numbers:

2, 4, _, 8, _, 12.

5, 10, _, 20, _, 30

10, 20, 30, _, 50, 60, _, 80.

5 + _ = 9

7 + _ = 10

10 + _ = 12

_ + 2 = 10

_ + 5 = 15

We also practised estimating outside:

A live drama lesson with Mrs Seaman

In Understanding the World we learnt about friction using vehicles, a ramp and different materials:

In Art we had fun colour mixing!

Have a lovely weekend!
