International Day

The boys did a fantastic job with their Reception concert. You should feel very proud of yourselves!

The boys enjoyed a fun filled day to celebrate International Day. The boys looked incredible!

A lovely parent from RY talked to the boys about France. The boys enjoyed learning many facts and making their own French flag.

The boys then enjoyed a visit from another lovely parent from RY to talk about Sri Lanka. The boys enjoyed making an elephant using paint and sequins.

The boys enjoyed plate painting to celebrate Chinese New Year.

Lovely parents talked about Russian folk art. The boys liked decorating their very own Dymkovo horse with plenty of colour and patterns.

We ended International Day eating Semolina cake made from a lovely parent in RY.

We would like to say a huge thank you to all parents involved with International Day. We all loved the presentations and activities!

This week we have been doubling numbers. Play this game in pairs. Give each pair 10 objects (could be cubes, cars, etc), a mirror and a set of 1–5 digit cards. One person selects a digit card. Ask the other to place that number of objects in front of the mirror. How many objects can they see now? Swap around and repeat the activity.

‘Show and Tell’, our topic ‘Transport’, please bring in a picture of your chosen transport with 3 facts:

Welly Time!

This week in Literacy we have been looking at instruction writing. The boys followed instructions to make their own paper plane and enjoyed flying their planes outside.

During Welly Time, the boys listened to the story, Superworm and then used natural materials to make a bug hotel. The boys loved collecting many bugs!

We spent more time with our lovely chicks.

The boys enjoyed a visit from a parent from RG. He taught the boys the different parts of a guitar and the boys had a chance to play.

The Math activity this week:

Play in pairs. Each group starts with 20 counters — count these out together to start. In turns, children can take away 1, 2 or 3 counters. The loser is the person who takes the last counter. Support children by asking questions to prompt counting back or other subtraction strategies at each stage of the game.

For Show and Tell, please bring in a picture of your favourite mode of transport and share three facts with the class.

Chicks!

During Understanding the World, the boys learnt about the life cycle of a chicken. The boys were able to identify the different parts of the life cycle and enjoyed ordering the life cycle pictures. Our lesson was brought to life as our cute chicks have hatched! The boys absolutely loved observing them.

In Literacy, the boys were learning about list writing. They wrote lists about different types of transport they have travelled in. They also wrote sentences about their favourite types of transport.

In Maths, the boys have been learning to count forwards and backwards in order to solve addition and subtraction problems.

This week we have been working on finding one more and one less. Here is a game you can play at home:
