Have a lovely half term!

It is hard to believe another half term has flown by and next half term will be the final term in Reception for our boys. The boys have worked incredibly hard this half term and we are very proud them!

In Literacy, we continued writing our creative stories. RY class did a great job including sentence starters such as, ‘Once upon a time,’ ‘unfortunately,’ and ‘in the end.’ The boys later made stick puppets and then used their imagination to act out their stories in a puppet show.

In Maths, the boys have been learning about estimating. They were able to understand the term ‘estimate’ by guessing how many objects there were in a bowl. In partners they played estimation games, the boys wrote their estimations and then checked to see if their estimations were correct by counting the objects.

For homework this week please could you find different sized containers and fill them with varying objects such as stones, coins or marbles. Estimate how many are in the container and record your estimation. Once you’ve estimated, please count to compare your estimate to the amount. Please comment on this blog post to say how you got on. Have fun!

Our broad bean plants have grown dramatically. Please continue to look after these at home and we look forward to hearing the updates!

During PSED, we talked about how we can keep our body and mind healthy and happy. The boys mentioned that we must eat our vegetables and fruit. They also said we must drink plenty of water and exercise every day. We later tried some celery and pineapple to find out what we like. The pineapple was a popular choice!

This week we took an exciting trip to the Green Meadows. The boys had a fantastic time!

The theme for Show and Tell is Songs. Please bring in a song to sing to the class.

The Show and Tell boys are as follows:

Monday: Abbas

Tuesday: Adam

Wednesday: Andreas

Have a well deserved half term holiday!

Bees and Ladybirds!

In Maths we revisited telling the time. The boys enjoyed making clocks and playing time games including ‘What’s the time Mr Wolf’. For homework this week, could you please use the paper plate clocks sent home to make o’clock times. We have also been looking at half past so please practise this too.

In Literacy the boys wrote their own creative stories remembering to include a beginning, middle and ending. We had some very exciting events including witches, knights, kings, queens and many more.

The boys enjoyed making their bees and ladybirds using paint and other materials. Their lovely work is displayed in the classroom.

In Understanding the World, we have been observing our broad bean plants and updating our broad bean diaries. They have grown dramatically!

The challenge this week is: Use a knife and fork.

Show and Tell are as follows:

Monday: Harvey and Jack

Tuesday: Luke and Mark

Wednesday: Rhys and Zachary

Thursday: Zakariya

Friday: Rian

We hope you have a lovely weekend.

Money

During Maths we revisited looking at coins from 1 pence to £2. The boys enjoyed practising their adding skills by playing money bingo. Each board had combinations of coins, which they rapidly added together to match different price tags. The boys also enjoyed visiting shops where they gave money and received change. They played the roles of customer and shop assistant where they could only use one coin and they worked out the difference between the coin and the price e.g. the item cost 2p but a 10p coin was given. They subtracted 2 from 10 to give the remaining 8p back.

The Maths homework activity for this week is an online game. You can select different coins and challenges:

https://www.topmarks.co.uk/money/toy-shop-money

You can select one coin or mixed coins. Under the ‘mixed coins’ tab you can practise giving change.

During Literacy, we listened to the story, ‘The Very Hungry Caterpillar’ and made our own caterpillar diary. We wrote what the hungry caterpillar ate each day and the caterpillar turning into a beautiful butterfly.

During Welly Time, Reception had fun building a wormery. They used mud and sand to make a home for our worms and enjoyed looking for worms!  Also during Welly Time, the boys enjoyed practising their tennis skills.

Show and Tell boys this week are:

Monday: Emilio

Tuesday: Emir

Wednesday: Erwan

Thursday: Eshaan

Friday: Finley

The challenge is: Put your book and book bag in the box.

Have a lovely weekend!

Numbers

This week we have been carefully watering our broad bean seeds! The boys have been very patient and excited about seeing their beans grow. They have written in their Bean Diaries and have worked together to sequence and label the life cycle of a butterfly.

During Welly Time, the boys enjoyed collecting a variety of naturistic items from outside such as, sticks, rocks, pinecones, and leaves. The boys then used large sticks to tape together and used string to hang their items.

In Maths we have been learning the terms ‘in between’ and ‘difference.’ The boys enjoyed making human number lines and finding numbers that were in between numbers. They also used number lines, counting bears, and drawing circles to find the difference between two numbers.

To practise this at home, please lay out your number cards or use your laminated 100 square to find numbers that are in between other numbers e.g. write one number between 12 and 17. Similarly, use these laminated resources to find the difference between 2 numbers. The boys have learnt to count on from their starting number and to remember to count up to and including the last number. e.g. To find the difference between 5 and 10, count 6,7,8,9 and 10. Or find/draw 10 objects and take away 5, how many are left?

Here is what some of the boys have been up to during Explore and Learn Time:

The show and tell rota for next week is:

Monday: Andreas

Tuesday: Arthur

Wednesday: Aurelius

Thursday: Ayden

Friday: Christos

This weeks challenge is: Tidy up.

Have a lovely weekend!
