The end of the first half term!

A huge well done to RMC for a brilliant first half term. The boys have all made new friends and they have worked very hard with their school work. They have made progress in many areas and it has been wonderful to see their development so far.

During Literacy, the boys enjoyed listening to the story, ‘Pumpkin Soup’ by Helen Cooper. They wrote about the vegetables they would like in their soup and enjoyed activities based on the story involving cutting and sticking.

This week in Phonics, we have been learning the sounds, ‘h’, ‘r’ and ‘m’. Please continue to practise writing these sounds in cursive script. If you would like to challenge yourself, you can write CVC words with these sounds such as hat, rat and mat.

This week in Maths, we have been using a five frame to count forwards and backwards. In our journals, we matched numbers to the correct amount and filled in the missing numbers.

Please try one of these Math activities:

Using your number cards, can you match the correct amount of Lego bricks, cars (toys of your choice)?

During Welly Time, the boys used natural materials outside to make their very own leaf crowns.

The theme for Show and Tell after half term is ‘Houses and Homes’. Please bring in a picture of your favourite space in your home. The ‘Show and Tell’ boys after half term are:

Monday: Advik

Tuesday: Alexander

Wednesday: Austin

Thursday: Estefan

Friday: Ethan

Weekly challenge after half term: Put your coat on independently. The boys can work on this over the half term.

Have a lovely half term break!

Polar Bear, Polar Bear, What Do You Hear?

During Understanding the World, we have continued to investigate our senses. We listened to the story ‘Polar bear, Polar Bear, What Do You Hear?” The boys then listened for sounds in our classroom and they wrote the initial letter sound for what they could hear and any remaining letter sounds.

During Phonics, the boys have learnt the sounds ‘c’, ‘k’ and ‘e’. We practised writing the letters in cursive and thought of words beginning with these sounds. Please continue to practise writing sounds learnt so far in cursive and writing your name.

In Maths this week, we have been exploring AB patterns. The boys have tried their best to recognise and continue AB patterns. They were challenged to create their own AB patterns using unifix cubes, compare bears and counters.

Have a go at completing these patterns:

Can you please practise writing numbers 0-5? You are welcome to bring in your number writing on paper so we can display it on our Independence wall. We look forward to seeing your lovely number work!

During Art, the boys enjoyed using paint to print their leaves on paper.

The boys loved Welly Time this week. They explored the consistencies of mixing mud and water. The boys had so much fun!

The Show and Tell boys are as follows:

Monday: Umar

Tuesday: William

There will be no Show and Tell after Tuesday the 10th of October until after Half Term.

Have a fabulous weekend!
