This week we have started our new topic on growing. We began by listening to the story of Jaspers Beanstalk by Mick Inkpen then we planted a bean. We talked about what we needed to plant the bean and what the bean needed to grow. We are looking forward to watching what happens to our beans over the next few weeks. I wonder if it will grow into a beanstalk like Jaspers!
In Maths, we have been doing addition by counting on. Try this at home as a quick way to add two groups. See if the boys can start at 5 then try counting on from bigger numbers.
This week we have started to self assess our work. We choose green if we could do the work confidently and independently, orange for finding it a bit tricky and red for needing a bit of adult support. This is a system the boys will get used to using as they move in to Year 1 and beyond and helps with reflecting on their own learning.
It was Earth Day this week. We were lucky to have a workshop on Wednesday from Green up your act.we learned about the things we can do to save our Earth. We looked at pictures and videos of the oceans and beaches. The boys understood that we must recycle and not leave litter on the beaches. They all made a super fish from cork and recycled plastic.
The theme for Show and Tell is ‘Growing’. Please bring in a picture of you as a baby. The Show and Tell boys for next week are as follows:
