Letters to Santa

During Literacy, we wrote letters to Father Christmas. The boys sounded out and  listed some items they are hoping to get. These have been photocopied for our role play area and they have been sent to Father Christmas in the North Pole. We are hoping to receive a reply from Father Christmas soon…

Christmas crafts:

The boys have been busy practising their Christmas production and they are working so hard!

During phonics, the boys have started to learn about digraphs (two letters that make one sound). In Maths the boys have been recognising and writing the numbers 17 and 18. Additionally, we have been using cubes to try and add. We have been learning the + and = symbols.

For Maths homework this week, please can you make your own teen numbers, cut them out and then use your teen numbers in your book bag to play pairs. To play, spread your cards out, face down and take it in turns to turn over 2 number cards and if they match then keep the pair. The winner is the person with the most pairs at the end. Have fun!

For Show and Tell, please bring in your favourite Christmas or winter story. The Show and Tell boys for next week are as follows:

Monday: Andreas

Tuesday: Blake

Wednesday: Cesur

Thursday: Christopher

Friday: Daniel

The weekly challenge for next week is: Check your draws at home time.

Have a lovely weekend!

Green Meadows

During Literacy, the boys created their own ‘dream homes’ e.g. sweets house, chocolate house, slide house etc. They thought of the features in their house and they used their phonic knowledge to write a list of features for their houses.

During Maths, the boys worked on recognising and writing numbers 16 and 17. The boys have also been learning about length. They used their measuring skills to order objects and snakes according to their length.

For the Maths homework this week please find 3 toys and put them in order from the shortest to the longest.

Which toy is the shortest?

Which toy is the longest?

Next, pick a toy, can you find something longer than this toy?

How about something shorter?

During PSED, the boys shared the things they are good at and realised how unique and special they all are. RY class made a paper chain showing drawings of all the things they are good at. Our special chain is hanging in our classroom.  We also discussed how to be a good friend and show kindness to one another when celebrating Friendship Friday.

During Welly Time, we surprised the boys and went to the Green Meadows. The boys thoroughly enjoyed exploring a new environment and playing lots of imaginative games.

The boys enjoyed wearing odd socks for Anti- Bullying week.

For Show and Tell, please bring in a picture of your favourite space in your house. The Show and Tell boys for next week are as follows:

Monday: Rico

Tuesday: Sebastian

Wednesday: Theron

Thursday: Zavier

Friday: Daniel

The weekly challenge is: To share with others.

House and Homes

During Show and Tell, the boys have enjoyed sharing pictures of their favourite spaces in their homes. For our topic, ‘House and Homes’ the boys learnt about the materials our houses are built out of and looked at different houses from around the world such as, Kenya, Switzerland, and Australia. They enjoyed building their own houses out of bricks, straw, and wood.

During Literacy, the boys made a home booklet. They used their phonic knowledge to sound out words and write a list of who lives in their home.

During Maths, we focussed on recognising and writing numbers 13 and 14. We have also been using cubes to help us write addition sums.

For the Math’s homework activity, could you please practise using the language of ‘more’ and ‘less’. Please start by spreading out your laminated number cards. Then select one card and try and find one more than that number. Repeat for a few numbers. Next, do the same, but this time find one less. For an extra challenge please find 2,3,4 or 5 more or less than your chosen number. You can refer to a number line to help you and also use your fingers to count on or back.

During Welly Time, the boys really enjoyed going on an Autumn and Mini-beast hunt. They enjoyed using their tick sheet to tick what they had found.

.

During Art, the boys practised their drawing technique and drew and coloured a poppy for Remembrance Day.

For Show and Tell, please bring in a picture of your favourite space in your house. The Show and Tell boys for next week are as follows:

Monday: Jack

Tuesday: Joshua

Wednesday: Leo M

Thursday: Leo S

Friday: Phoenix

The weekly challenge is: To use ‘please’ and ‘thank you’.

We have enclosed the words for our Christmas production in the boys bookbags, if you can practise the words at home, we would be most grateful.

Wishing you a lovely weekend.

Diwali and Bonfire Night

This week the boys enjoyed learning about Diwali. Mrs Mehta talked about Diwali and she wore a beautiful Sari. She showed the boys lovely decorations such as, tea lights and Rangoli patterns. The boys did a great job with decorating their own Rangoli patterns. Some boys used shapes and coloured pins to create patterns too.

In Maths, the boys practised recognising and writing numbers 11 and 12.

For the Maths homework activity, could you please explore symmetrical patterns using the link below:
