We have had a super week in Reception. This week, the boys went to their first specialist lessons. They met Mr Barth and Mr Griffin their PE teachers, who were very impressed with the boys’ listening and enthusiasm.

They also met Mrs Lund, their Music teacher. They clapped name songs and clapped along to the beat. They learnt about violins when listening to the composer Johann Pachelbel.

On Tuesday the boys met Mrs Seaman for their first Drama lesson:

On Friday the boys went to their first computing lesson in the computing suite with Mrs Calderaro. They practised their mouse control and played simple puzzle games.

At the beginning of the week we continued to learn each other’s names. When sitting in a circle, the boys categorised their names by their initial letter sounds. We discovered that names beginning with ‘A’ were the most common in RS. After this, the boys practised writing their name leaning how to use the cursive script and they decorated the edge of their name card.

The boys have begun their phonic lessons and they have thoroughly enjoyed learning the songs and actions for the letter sounds introduced so far. It has been great to see the fantastic work the boys have completed at home for their homework, too. They are beginning to get the hang of the cursive ‘lead in strokes’.

In Maths we have started to practise forming our numbers, remembering that every number starts from the top.

Next week we will be starting our Starboy rota, where the boys get to do special duties during the day, including ‘show and tell’. The theme is ‘Ourselves’. For this please bring in a photo or picture of your favourite toy on their designated day. Due to Covid 19, please do not bring in the actual toy. The starboys next week are as follows:

Next week we will also be starting Reception’s Weekly Challenges. The challenge next week is ‘hang your coat up on your peg independently’. The boys are already making good progress with this. Please practise this at home to help your son.

A warm welcome to you and your sons. This is RS’ class blog, which is updated every Friday.

It has been wonderful welcoming all the boys to school and seeing them learn their new daily routines. They have been busily exploring and playing in their new classroom, beginning to learn each others names and make new friendships. The boys have enjoyed painting self portraits as well as completing other small tasks with adults. They have loved exploring the resources they can play with inside and outside their classroom:
