Welcome Back

Welcome back! The boys have come back from half term very pleased to see each other.

Our new topic of ‘Traditional Tales’ has been introduced this week. The boys loved listening to the story, ‘The Jolly Postman’. During Literacy, they wrote apology letters from Goldilocks to the Three Bears inspired by Goldilocks’ letter in The Jolly Postman story. We have also revised the digraphs sh, ch, th and ng.

During Welly Time, the boys enjoyed going for a walk around the School and creating their own School map.

This week we have been learning about number bonds to 6.

A good game to support this is bowling:

Bowl up to 6 skittles in teams. How many have you knocked over? How many are still standing?

Challenge: try numbers to 10.

The boys enjoyed measuring the wind!

A lovely parent from RY did Easter biscuit decorating with RY Class. The boys loved their cooking session!

Well done to all boys for reciting their wonderful poems. We are very proud!

For Show and Tell, please bring in a picture of your favourite weather. Can you research and share three facts about your chosen weather?

The Show and Tell boys for next week are as follows:

Monday: George

Tuesday: Harry

Wednesday: Isaac

Thursday: Jacob

Friday: Jett- Louis

We hope you have a lovely weekend.

Mental Health Week

This week was a special week as we acknowledged the importance of our mental health. We began the week with a lovely breakfast together. The boys enjoyed talking about their healthy, delicious breakfasts!

As one of our activities during Mental Health week, we discussed who we can turn to for support. Many of the boys feel they can ask for help from their friends, parents, grandparents, and teachers. The boys created their own support balloons and wrote who they can seek support from. The support balloons are proudly displayed in our classroom. We also drew around our hands and thought about how we connect to one another.

During Maths, we recapped using five and ten frames, finding one more and one fewer of a given number. We compared ten frames by matching the ten frames to the correct amount.

For the Math challenge can you turn over your number cards so you cannot see the number, pick a number card and can you say one more? Now try 1 fewer? Use a number line to help you, then try without the number line.

In Welly Time, we enjoyed using water, mud and natural resources to make our own mud characters!

There will be no Show and Tell week beginning 20th February due to the poetry competition. We look forward to the boys presenting their poems. Please may I kindly remind the boys to practise learning their lines for our class assembly.

We wish you a lovely, restful half term break and we look forward to seeing you all when we are back!

Supertato!

During Literacy, we read a story called, Supertato by Sue Hendra and Paul Linnet. We discussed the different characters in the story and the main events. One of the main characters called, ‘Evil Pea’ was unkind to the other vegetables. He was on the loose! The boys made a wanted poster to catch the Evil Pea. It is proudly displayed in our classroom!

During PSED, the boys discussed how we keep our teeth healthy. We talked about how to brush our teeth and discussed the importance of visiting the dentist. The boys sorted foods and drinks we could have to keep our teeth healthy and strong.

In Maths, the boys used a counting all strategy to combine two sets up to 10.

The Maths challenge this week you will need:

Number cards and objects (counters, cars, etc)

Pick a number card

Using the objects, can you make a number pattern? For example, 2 cars and 1 car makes 3 cars altogether.

During Art, the boys liked using paper mache to create their very own Supertato.

The boys enjoyed making a fruit salad this week!

During Welly Time, the boys enjoyed choosing natural materials from outside and making their own magic potion. The boys also added a Vitamin C tablet into water to make their potion fizz! The boys used their imagination to think of superpowers their potion could give them.

For Show and Tell, please bring in a picture of your favourite weather. Can you research and share three facts about your chosen weather?

The Show and Tell boys for next week are as follows:

Monday: Aleksei

Tuesday: Aryan

Wednesday: Edward

Thursday: Finn

Friday: Gabriel

Have a lovely weekend.
