Maths Homework

For Maths homework this week, could you please use your laminated 100 square and pick some two digit numbers at random. Look at the first digit within the number and count out how many ‘tens’ it has using your fingers by counting aloud in tens. Next, look at the second digit to identify how many ‘ones’ there are and then count out how many ones there are using your fingers.

The Show and Tell boys are as follows:

Monday: Luke

Tuesday: Mark

Wednesday: Rhys

Thursday: Zachary

Friday: Zakariya and Rian

The boys have worked incredibly hard to complete the weekly challenges. We have now reached the end of all our challenges, well done boys!

Wishing you all a lovely weekend.

Cuffley Camp!

The boys had a wonderful time at Cuffley camp. They were excited and ready to go on their adventure!

When we reached Cuffley camp, we met Katie our camp leader and we walked to the forest school. We had some play time to explore the different activities around. There was a swing, mud kitchen, huge tent, secret garden, and a wooden playhouse, to name a few!

After play time we learnt about what was needed to make a campfire and the safety measures involved. The boys learnt the three main elements to make a fire which are fuel, oxygen, and heat. The boys absolutely loved seeing Katie making a campfire using different materials.

Reception enjoyed going on a Minibeast hunt, they had to look for ants, bumble bees, beetles, woodlice, and worms. The boys also went on a Scavenger hunt to look for sticks, feathers, stones, grass, leaves and minibeasts (just to name a few!). We used what we found on our Scavenger hunt to make our own Bug Hotel!

We walked around the forest looking at the different trees, we found a Hornbeam tree which is around 300 to 500 years old. We gave this tree hug to say thank you for all the wonderful things it does for our world. We also found a Silver Birch and learnt that peeling bark off (which is called ‘ringing’) harms the tree. We came across some stinging nettles and tasted the nettle seeds which are a good source of iron!

We then used paint to camouflage ourselves and played fun forest games that involve hiding and not being seen by a predator. The boys loved playing these games and hid behind many trees!

The boys had a fantastic day and learnt so much about nature and why it is important.

Planes

This week in Literacy we have been looking at instruction writing. The boys followed instructions to make their own paper plane and enjoyed flying their planes outside.

RY class worked extremely hard learning the sounds ‘ea,’ ‘oy’ and ‘ir’. They were able to think of their own words with these sounds and write sentences.

During Maths this week, we revisited subtraction and addition. During class discussions we thought of vocabulary involving addition and subtraction such as, plus, minus, difference, add, subtract, more, less etc. RY class used cubes or fingers to find the answers to the problems.

For the Maths homework this week have a go at answering these addition and subtraction questions:

6 + 4=

10 – 2=

12 + 4=

13 – 3=

15 + 5=

17- 3 =

20 + 2 =

During Welly Time, the boys enjoyed making their own dens using plastic poles, sticks and materials.

The challenge this week is: To use ‘please’ and ‘thank you’.

Show and Tell boys are as follows:

Monday: Eshaan

Tuesday: School Trip

Wednesday: Finley

Thursday: Harvey

Friday: Jack

We wish you a lovely weekend!

A sunny week…

During Welly time this week, we were in the sunshine using our senses to explore what we can hear, smell, see and touch. The boys thought of wonderful ideas!

This week in Maths, we have continued to learn about estimating. The boys estimated amounts of items as well as estimating lengths. We used multilink cubes to estimate and check the length of different types of small world transport toys.

Furthermore, the boys practised filling in missing numbers. Please fill in the missing numbers at home:

2, 4, _, 8, _, 12.

5, 10, _, 20, _, 30

10, 20, 30, _, 50, 60, _, 80.

5 + _ = 9

7 + _ = 10

10 + _ = 12

_ + 2 = 10

_ + 5 = 15

In Literacy, the boys were learning about list writing. They wrote lists about different types of transport they have travelled in. They also wrote sentences about their favourite types of transport..

Please prepare a song for show and tell next week. The Show and Tell boys for next week are as follows:

Monday: Ayden

Tuesday: Christos

Wednesday: Emilio

Thursday: Emir

Friday: Erwan

The challenge is: Sit smartly on your chair and tuck it under the table.

We hope you have a lovely weekend and enjoy the sunshine!
