Bouncing back

At the start of the week we listened to out next Traditional Tale, ‘Jack and the Beanstalk’ The boys cut out and sequenced the story. Afterwards they added fantastic captions for their pictures.

During Maths, the boys were excited to learn about money. They learnt that coins have different values according to their number and colour ranging from bronze to gold. We compared this to the Olympic medals. We visited some ‘shops’, saved up money in piggy banks and played ‘Guess the coins’.

The maths tasks this week is as follows:

Could you please visit a real shop to buy some small items such as sweets that cost less than £1 or 50p. Take a range of coins with you and practise counting in ones, twos and tens. Furthermore, if you have a toy till at home, practise using coins to buy different items. Have fun!

Another group of boys thoroughly enjoyed Welly Time this week:

We also enjoyed a visit from Cally the dog, who helps with stroke rehabilitation. The boys learnt how Cally helps people with their recovery:

On Thursday Pre-Prep experienced some Mindfulness sessions. We became more aware of our five senses and listened to a story of how to be present in the moment and in our thoughts. We look forward to practising what we have learnt.

To end our week we took part in ‘Bounce’. Each boy was involved in three different activities. They had lots of fun whilst also thinking critically, persevering and working as a team.

The starboys for next week are as follows:

Monday: Mateo

Tuesday: Max

Wednesday: Rhys

Thursday: Half day- no star boy

Have a wonderful weekend!

  1. Sahil enjoyed playing Pop to the Shops using real money. Highly recommend the board game for learning about money. He was able to recognise the value of the coins and add amounts to buy various items.

  2. Mateo used a variety of sweets and other items that were for sale in his pretending shop. Dad took the role of a customer and Mateo was the shop keeper using a toy till. Each item has a different value, e.g. One tick tack counted for 10, one paper clip for 5.

The customer would ask for a particular item(s) and the quantity and Mateo would count the requested item(s) in ones, twos, fives, and tens. Mateo calculated the cost and counted the money being paid using coins of 1p, 2p, 5p, 10p and 20p.
